Locking Mechanism
- When you receive your prosthesis, your lock will be in good working order and your will have been instructed by your Prosthetist on its use.
- Keep your lock free of debris. Compressed air can help blow debris loose from within the lock mechanism. Lint and foreign material can cause your lock to work improperly.
- If you are experiencing problems with your lock, contact your Prosthetist for an appointment.
- Inspect your lock before you don your prosthesis. Look into the lock for any foreign material. Turn your prosthesis over to see if anything has fallen into the hole.
- Make sure when you apply your prosthetic socks that no material is caught on the pin. Loose threads can get caught in the lock and should be kept trimmed as they occur.
- Socks should be pulled up tight around the threaded receiving nut at the end of the insert.
- Do not lubricate your lock mechanism. Lubricants can attract lint and will decrease lock function.
- Proper lubrication should be performed by a qualified Prosthetist.
- If your lock fails for any reason, contact your Prosthetist immediately.
- If your sock should become "stuck" in your lock:
- 1st grab hold of the outer prosthetic sock worn over the insert.
- 2nd depress the lock button.
- 3rd place your opposite foot on top of the prosthetic foot.
- 4th while keeping the lock button depressed, pull up on the prosthetic sock to extract the pin from the lock.
- 5th if you are unable to free yourself, ask someone to assist with depressing the lock or pulling the sock. Once out, check your socks and the lock for foreign material or to see if sock fabric was caught in the lock, preventing extraction. Change your socks and clear the lock mechanism. Check the lock button and make sure it is functioning before you don your prosthesis again. Call your practitioner for an appointment to have your lock rechecked.
