George A Shultz

Our Heritage

Taking a job as an errand boy in 1935, George A Schultz eagerly when to work for an orthopedic firm in Milwaukee, WI. 12 years after starting at the bottom of an industry he knew nothing about, George had learned enough to become a Certified Orthotist. A few years later- in 1950- he formed his own company, Acme Surgical Appliance Co. George was an excellent teacher to his 3 sons who followed him into the business- David C in 1957, Jack M in 1965 and Charles F in 1975.

George died in 1976, the year after moving his company to larger headquarters and changing its name to Acme Laboratories to reflect its expanded scope. Under the direction of his sons, Acme grew to include 4 additional offices by 1979, increasing its volume five-fold and quadrupling the number of employees. The company continued to expand to it present 7 locations and changed its name once again to reflect the service it provided to Actra Orthotics and Prosthetics.

In 2004, Actra was purchased by Physiotherapy Corporation, a nationally based O&P and outpatient rehabilitation service provider. Actra proudly joined with Wisconsin Prosthetics and Orthotics (WPO) in 2006 as sister companies, becoming one of the largest and most respected O&P provider in the state of Wisconsin offering a total of 10 locations state wide.
